If you are a Phoenix native, you are surely familiar with My Big Fat Greek Restaurant, a local chain serving up the best Greek food in town. The location in downtown Phoenix at the Arizona Center is especially nice due to the massive patio looking out onto the gardens of the complex. Only two blocks walking distance from the Light Rail stop at Central Station, MBFGR at the Arizona Center is perfect for groups big and small. The wait staff is eager to help and friendly, there is always a place to sit and rarely a wait, and the cheese is on fire… on purpose.
I always say there is no better way to start a meal than with a flaming plate of cheese, and the only place in the valley doing Saganaki well is My Big Fat Greek Restaurant. Follow it with the beautiful hummus trio and some warm, soft pitas or a Greek salad but make sure to save plenty of room for the main course. There is something for everyone on the menu from burgers to gyros. The best loved has to be the Gyro dinners served with a choice of either lamb, chicken, gyro meat, or steak all carved fresh off the rotisserie and paired with veggies, lemon rice and roasted lemon potatoes. The pita plates come with a choice of Greek salad or the out of this world Greek fries seasoned with garlic and lemon. Are you stressed about trying to impress a date before a concert at the Dodge Theater? Not a problem, My Big Fat Greek Restaurant offers lamb chops cooked to perfection and a melt in your mouth Petite Filet, if you have to order for your honey, either choice would make you second date material. Pair your meal with a Pomegranate Mojito or one of the great craft beers on tap at the bar. Spoil your sweet tooth with a serving of scrumptious homemade Baklava or feel the heat once more with Flaming Galaktobouriko, a traditional Greek custard baked inside flaky phyllo dough and topped with vanilla ice cream and sweet caramel sauce.
Happy hour is on tap weekdays from 3-7 offering $3 wells, house wine, and draft beer as well as $4 selected appetizers. After work drinks, pre-game snack, quick lunches with co-workers or a night out on the town, My Big Fat Greek Restaurant is always serving up great Mediterranean dishes when you need an escape but cannot afford a plane ticket across the ocean.
