What do you get when you have neon lights, brightly painted walls, sports memorabilia, customized acrylic tables, and schooners? Fuzzy’s Taco Shop! With its only location in the state of Arizona, Fuzzy’s opened its doors in September of 2011. Fuzzy’s Taco Shop is located just minutes away from the Mill Avenue and 3rd St. Light Rail station in Tempe.
With its eclectic blend of decorations, Fuzzy’s Taco Shop is a sports bar that has a south of the border flair. At first glance the mismatch seating may appear overwhelming but, after getting situated the various seating arrangements create the most comfortable style of seating any restaurant could offer.
The staff is very friendly and patient especially with customers who are finicky like myself (No lettuce, no tomatoes, and cilantro on the side please) and they never skip a beat while placing orders. Within ten minutes of ordering and self-seating, numbers can be heard through a swinging microphone announcement from the open kitchen. This style of dining is indirect but, still maintains the human connection by interacting and personalizing the dining experience. As the staff brings conversation and a sense of humor through a cast of different personalities who are continuously moving about the restaurant, one does not miss that there are no designated servers.
For those of you who are not familiar with what a schooner is, it is an 18 oz. chalice style glass of beer that is EXCLUSIVE to Fuzzy’s Taco Shop. With so many different combinations of tacos, burritos, and a number of delicious Mexican dishes it makes it hard to set your sights on just one. Each and every Tuesday join Fuzzy’s Taco Shop for their $1.50 taco specials and just when you thought things could not get any better an additional option has been added to the menu, Breakfast! Breakfast tacos and burritos are offered daily. According to customers the most popular taco is the shrimp and shredded beef but, if you ask Cory (Owner and Operator) he will say it’s the pork and nothing but the pork! All of the meat is well seasoned, marinated and prepared fresh. By adding a touch of Feta cheese to each taco, it is a great way to add a mild flavor without overwhelming a sensitive pallet with heat from traditional salsa or sauces like their signature “Butt Burnin’ Hot Sauce” or homemade salsa. So no matter whether you are having the fish, chicken, shrimp, veggie, shredded beef, ground beef, or the mouth watering pork you will experience a mind boggling flavor explosion!
