The Perfect Lakefront Vacation
Lake Havasu City, Ariz. – It’s fun. It’s affordable. It’s safe. And you can do it any weekend!
Lake Havasu, straddling the border of Arizona and California, is a vibrant desert oasis renowned for its sparkling blue waters, outdoor recreation, and iconic London Bridge. Formed by the Parker Dam on the Colorado River, the lake stretches 45 miles and offers over 400 miles of shoreline, making it a prime destination for boating, fishing, kayaking, and swimming. Lake Havasu City, founded in 1963 by entrepreneur Robert P. McCulloch, is the main hub on the eastern shore and home to around 57,000 residents. The city gained international fame when McCulloch purchased the original London Bridge from England in 1968, had it shipped and reconstructed over a manmade channel—now one of Arizona’s top tourist attractions.
The area enjoys a hot desert climate with over 290 sunny days per year, drawing both spring breakers and winter snowbirds. Events like the Havasu Balloon Festival, jet ski races, and fishing tournaments keep the city lively year-round. Nature lovers can explore nearby wildlife refuges, including the Bill Williams River and Havasu National Wildlife Refuges, which protect diverse desert ecosystems and offer excellent birdwatching and hiking opportunities.
Lake Havasu State Park and London Bridge Beach provide scenic spots for camping, picnicking, and water sports, while the surrounding terrain invites off-roading and geocaching adventures. The lake itself is a haven for anglers, with bass, catfish, and sunfish among the popular catches. Despite its remote location, Lake Havasu City boasts a strong sense of community, a bustling downtown, and a wide range of dining and lodging options.
Whether you're seeking adrenaline-fueled water sports, tranquil desert landscapes, or a quirky slice of history, Lake Havasu delivers a unique blend of natural beauty and small-town charm that continues to captivate visitors from around the world
